Rosie Doonan was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, into a large family of traditional folk musicians. It was almost inevitable that she would join the family business, and make her living as a musician. Rosie was raised on the traditional folk music that her grandfather, father and uncles played in The Doonan Family Band, and more recently The Mighty Doonans. From an early age she was also singing and playing saxophone in the family soul band, The Solicitors. Rosie forged a musical career in her own right, as a solo artist, releasing many critically acclaimed folk albums, and as one half of the Rosie Doonan and Ben Murray duo, who were nominated for a BBC folk award. The much-missed power trio, CryBabyCry, showcased Rosie's passion for blues rock and her talents as a bass player. Rosie has been an in-demand session singer and instrumentalist for many years, both live and in the studio. She counts touring with Peter Gabriel as one of her proudest achievements, and Rosie was a member of Birdy's touring band as a vocalist, keyboard player and guitarist for four years. Rosie has also recently recorded and toured with acclaimed arranger and composer John Metcalfe and performed at the Brit awards with Coldplay's Chris Martin as part of their George Michael tribute. Rosie is currently writing and recording for a variety of music libraries and her compositions have featured on a wide range of campaigns and placements including The British Film Institute and Knorr. Her track “Feel Love” achieved mainstream success when it was remixed by EDM producer Feed Me and to date Rosie's music has had over 10 million views on YouTube. Rosie and Tim Kellett, of Olive and Simply Red, composed the songs for a forthcoming musical theatre show that at the time of writing is in pre-production. Rosie also wrote and performed the original music and songs in the touring theatre production “Ask Me Anything” by the critically acclaimed Paper Birds theatre company.

Leave The Light On

Those who know Rosie’s past musical accolades will understand my excitement when she agreed to write and record a personalised song for me. It was my partners 40th birthday so I wanted something extra special, and boy did I get it.
I gave Rosie some bullet points about our relationship and a basic genre of what I wanted and left her to work her magic.
Rosie kept me informed throughout the process, sending me acoustic clips of verses and ideas and made sure I was part of the process to ensure I got the song I wanted.

I knew the end result was going to be pretty amazing, but what she came up with is probably now one of my all-time favourite songs. This wasn’t some quick easy 4 chord acoustic/piano ballad, it is a fully produced, multi-instrumental, well thought out story which perfectly encapsulates our relationship. The journey from friends to lovers, the struggles with long distance and the love and strength we have worked so hard to build and maintain.
The vocals in the chorus are truly spine tingling and instantly brought tears to both our eyes.
I cannot thank Rosie enough for such a special master piece. It is something we will both treasure for the rest of our lives.

I cannot recommend Rosie’s service enough.

Festival Ky

I worked with Rosie to craft a personal song for my friends 40th birthday. I really wanted to give her something thoughtful and unique and she really loves music so this was the perfect gift. I gave Rosie a list of memories / images and things personal to my friend and she worked these into funny and beautiful lyrics . Rosie was also able to work to make the songs style and genre ( in this case punk/ rock) which made it such a perfect personal gift.

I would thoroughly recommend working with Rosie to make a personal song, the process was so easy and efficient and the outcome blew us away. This is something our friend , a real music lover, can enjoy again and again and blows all other personalised gifts out of the water.

Wedding Song

Rosie wrote a beautiful song for my husband and I for our wedding ceremony. We used FaceTime so she could get to know us a bit and we could share our story with her about how we met and how we felt about each other. I cried when I first heard the song. She'd captured our relationship beautifully. We were lucky that Rosie was able to perform it live for us at our wedding and it was a highlight of the day. The song is something we treasure as it's ours. It's on my labour playlist and I look forward to being able to tell our daughter the story behind it.
